(0848) PENETROMETER LAMP – $850 NZD (SOLD)

This Howard & Morse laboratory penetrometer was likely used for testing the consistency of asphalt or bitumen. Manufactured circa 1910–1920 in Brooklyn, New York, it reflects an era when even utilitarian scientific instruments were crafted with remarkable attention to detail and beauty.
The original red finish was cleaned and clear-coated, preserving the darkened patina of decades of use, while the brass was polished to highlight its warmth and elegance.
Now reimagined as a desk lamp with a clock, this specialised laboratory instrument has been transformed into functional art while honouring its history.
